Space Swarm
Space Swarm is a free arcade survival game you play in your browser. One space station is left, an alien fleet keeps coming, and you are the only thing standing between them and the end of humanity.
You shoot ships by clicking on them. That is the whole control scheme, and the difficulty comes from how fast the swarm grows and whether you spent your upgrades on the right things.
What is Space Swarm?
It is a 2D arcade defense game. Waves of alien ships fly toward the last space station, and you destroy them by clicking before they reach it. Between bursts of fighting you spend what you earn on upgrades so your firepower keeps pace with the enemy. Let too many through and the station goes down. The loop is simple: shoot, survive the wave, upgrade, face a harder wave.
How to play
Aiming is point and click. There is no movement to manage, so all of your attention goes on reading the swarm and deciding what to shoot first.
Desktop controls
- Left mouse button: click an enemy ship to fire on it and destroy it
- Click on upgrades when the option appears to spend your earnings
Mobile controls
On a touchscreen you tap the enemy ships instead of clicking. It works the same way, so the game plays fine on a phone.
Upgrading your defenses
The station starts weak, and the early waves are easy enough that you can coast. That does not last. The aliens get tougher and arrive in larger numbers, so the upgrades you buy are what keep you alive.
Think of each run as a race between your firepower and the size of the swarm. If your defenses fall behind, ships start slipping past you, and the damage adds up quickly.
Tips for surviving longer
- Pick off the ships closest to the station first. The ones about to hit you matter more than the ones still far out.
- Do not sit on your earnings. An upgrade you could have bought is wasted if the station dies with money in the bank.
- Keep your cursor near the densest part of the swarm so you are not dragging it across the whole screen every time.
- Watch for the point where a wave outpaces your current setup, and prioritize raw damage upgrades when that happens.
What makes it hard
The controls never get harder. The swarm does. Early on you have time to aim, but once the screen fills up you are clicking as fast as you can and still losing ground. The tension comes from that gap between how quickly you can fire and how quickly the aliens multiply, and from guessing whether your last upgrade was the right one.
